Scotland is being held back by an unjust system of land ownership. Just 408 landowners own almost half of Scotland’s land.

Huge swathes of Scotland’s land are managed for grouse shooting, which relies on the killing of hundreds of thousands of animals and the burning of hundreds of thousands of hectares — all so more grouse can be shot for ‘sport’, for an economic contribution of less than 0.03% of Scotland's economy.

This concentration of land ownership denies communities the chance to shape their future, while land-based businesses are denied the opportunity to grow and our land's potential is locked away.

It’s time to reform how our land is owned and managed — including our grouse moors — so that Scotland’s land can better serve its people, wildlife and environment.
